R&B-SOULShobha
enlists fellow multicultural Canadian musicians for concert in support
of Daniel Pearl World Music Days - July 19 at the Rivoli.
Canadian Radio Star 2008 national winner Shobha will be holding an
innovative Toronto concert on July 19 at the landmark Rivoli club to
commemorate the release of her debut CD ‘Work In Progress’,
with the help of some very special friends.
In addition to Shobha performing with her band whose members have
played for such diverse artists as Jully Black and Esthero,
Shobha’s concert will also build awareness for the Daniel Pearl
Foundation’s upcoming World Music Days initiative, hence the
addition of well known Toronto artists Ray Robinson and
Imaan Faith to the concert bill, along with FLOW 93.5 FM’s DJ Jason Chambers.
“I love the Daniel Pearl Foundation’s idea of using music
to bring people of different backgrounds together,” explains
Shobha. “I’m excited to have put together and be part of a
very diverse concert line-up, and hope this also encourages more
Canadian musicians to support the Daniel Pearl World Music Days
initiative in October.”
Born and raised in Eastern Canada, Shobha has well adjusted to Toronto
as her new home, having represented the city and MIX 99.9 FM as
regional Toronto winner in the Canadian Radio Star 2008 competition,
before going on to win the
national title. Shobha also performed this past May 31st at the 2nd
annual RBC desiFEST at Yonge & Dundas Square in support of
Canada’s South Asian Heritage Month.

Daniel Pearl World Music Days was created in response
to the 2002
kidnapping and
murder of Wall Street Journal reporter
Daniel Pearl at the hands of extremists
in Karachi, Pakistan. Danny's family and friends came
together to work
towards a more
humane world,
forming the Daniel
Pearl Foundation, whose mission is to
promote
cross-cultural understanding
through journalism, music, and dialogue.
